Lamb - No Lamb for 2009 Season
We have a great and sustainable way to manage our lamb production.  Since our land space is so limited at our micro farm we "co-farm" with other farmers and utilize their unused pasture space.

There are quiet a few underutilized, fenced small pastures dotting Bainbridge Island.  For many, mowing and caring for 2-5 acres of meadow is not much fun.  We've been able to find these spaces and turned their owners into unintended farmers!  People seem to really enjoy looking out their window and seeing sheep grazing on their previously vacant land.  We pasture the lamb with our co-farmer from late June through late October.  During that time I make periodic visits to make sure everyone is OK and the co-farmer only has to make sure that the water tank is full.  In payment for letting us use their pasture we butcher, wrap and freeze an entire lamb for our farming partner.  So far, it's been a win-win for everyone.

My secret hope is that it will make many more small "farmers" on the island.

We usually sell 6-10 half lambs a year.  It must be good since we haven't lost a repeat customer yet!  A half lamb has a hanging weight of about 25 lbs.  Give us a jingle around Febraury if you'd like to be added to the list.

Lambs are 100% pasture raised, no hormones or antibiotics.
